Field Season is About to Get Started with Many New Projects in Mind

This year’s field season for stream and fish projects looks to be one of our most active, diverse, as well as interesting combination of field projects yet.

Watershed, river, fisheries habitat and conservation education work will be highlighted as well as related smaller but no less important projects. Most of the work will be done on the lower reaches of the East Fork, Mason Creek, Manly Road Creek and Salmon Creek. Nearly all of the projects are easily accessible for even the most mobility challenged.

The help needed to do these projects comes from all age ranges and skills. We also intend to seek collaboration with other groups as we have successfully done in the past by linking up with other conservation minded groups such as Salmon Creek Fly Fishers-Veterans Group, Trout Unlimited, Dave Brown Fish Rescue, and Clark Skamania Fly Fishers. Any individual interested can also get on our potential project help notification list.

Already we have received donation commitments of key supplies and some construction materials as well as lending of support equipment. In addition, if we are able to get Eagle Scout involvement again this year, we have projects for them and they provide their own logistics and materials.

Also there are interactions with local schools and with the Columbia Springs Conservation Learning Center that we will be following up on. The intent is to take students out on tours of the projects. The goal being to connect class-room learning with on-the-ground real conservation work and results.

In addition, we again hope to have access to the highly experienced licensed professional drone pilot that did such a great job last year in helping us get photos and videos of our projects and key potential project areas of the river. Stream temperature is another major concern and we will be placing “HoBo” continuous temperature recorders in index reaches of the East Fork again.
